Our normal body temperature is 98.4 F. when this temperature rises above the normal level; then it is called pyrexia or fever. Fever can be –
Simple: caused by exposure to excess cold or heat, by getting wet, due to gastric disturbances, over exertion etc.
Intermittent fever: fever (like malaria) which is periodical, i.e. relapses after a certain period of time.
Remittent or continuous fever – fever which is continuous, without attaining normal body temperature. E.g. typhoid.
Puerperal fever: fever after delivery.
Hectic fever : phthisis generally found in T.B. patients.
