Epilepsy is a group of disorders in which there are recurrent attacks due to electrical abnormality in the brain. There are various types of seizures (epileptic attacks) but the most common forms are-
Grandmal (tonic-clonic)
Petitmal (abscences)
These are generalized seizures. Classic abscences (petitmal) are seen mostly in children.
Causes of epilepsy:
Familial
Loss of appetite ( prolonged)
Hypocalcaemia (decreased calcium in blood).
Injury to brain.
Brain haemorrhage
In primary epilepsy, no cause is present. It is the commonest type of epilepsy.
Factors which may trigger seizures:
Sleep deprivation
Emotional stress
Physical and mental exhaustion
Infections, high fever
Drug ingestion or sudden withdrawal
Flickering light, visual patterns, watching tv from near distance.

In addition to above points, treatment should be based on the cause of the disease and the related points should also be taken.
