Anemia is the condition in which the blood haemoglobin level is below the normal range for the patient's age, sex and altitude of residence.
Normal adult values:
Males: 13-18g/ dl.
Females: 11.5-16.5g/dl
Anemia can occur due to
• Blood loss- acute or chronic
• Deficient RBCs (red blood cells) as a result of some disease like leukaemia, iron deficiency, hypothyroidism etc.
• Genetic disorders
• Acquired disorders like infections, toxicity, immunological disorders etc.
